Incoterms

The terms usually used.

  • CIF and CFR for most sea cargo into African ports.
  • FOB for exports of ores and minerals.
  • DAP for deliveries inland and to landlocked countries.
  • Every deal sets its Incoterm in writing, so both sides know who pays for what and where the risk passes.

Documents

What is usually needed.

The exact list depends on the product, the route and the destination's rules, and is agreed in each contract.

  1. Commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading
  2. Certificate of origin
  3. Pre-shipment inspection or certificate of conformity, where the destination country requires it
  4. Electronic cargo tracking note, where the destination port requires it
  5. Independent assay and weight certificates for ores and concentrates
  6. Roadworthiness or age documents for vehicles, under each country's import rules

Compliance

Screened on both sides.

Every supplier and buyer is checked against international sanctions lists before any introduction. BGI does not work with sanctioned countries, persons or goods.
